Over the past two years, the Welcome Work project has been working to support displaced Ukrainians as they rebuild their careers, develop confidence and take important steps towards employment in their new communities.
Across Ireland, Poland, Spain, France and Denmark, the project has brought together partners, employers, local communities and displaced professionals with one shared aim: to create practical pathways into work and support meaningful inclusion through employment.
For many displaced Ukrainians, finding work in a new country can be challenging. Different labour market systems, unfamiliar recruitment processes, language barriers and uncertainty around qualifications can make the journey into employment feel difficult to navigate. Welcome Work was created to respond to these challenges with clear, practical and accessible support.
As the project reaches this important stage, we are proud to celebrate three major milestones that are already making a difference.
A Practical Starter Kit
One of the key project outputs is the Welcome Work Starter Kit, a clear and accessible guide designed to help newcomers understand local labour markets and take their first steps towards meaningful employment.
The Starter Kit offers practical information on job-seeking, workplace expectations, skills development and employment opportunities. It is designed to give displaced Ukrainians the knowledge and confidence they need to begin planning their next steps.
By breaking down complex information into simple, useful guidance, the Starter Kit helps newcomers feel more prepared and more in control of their employment journey.
A Best Practice Compendium
Welcome Work has also developed a Best Practice Compendium, created through collaboration with partners across five European countries.
This resource brings together proven approaches, employer insights and integration strategies that can help organisations better support displaced talent. It highlights what works in practice, from inclusive recruitment and workplace support to community engagement and skills recognition.
The Compendium is not only a resource for the project partnership. It is also a valuable tool for organisations, employers and support services that want to build more inclusive workplaces and create stronger routes into employment for displaced people.
A Multilingual Mobile App
The third major milestone is the development of a multilingual mobile app.
This user-friendly digital tool has been designed as a practical companion for displaced Ukrainians. It offers guidance, tools and country-specific information directly at users’ fingertips, helping them access support wherever they are.
The app reflects the project’s commitment to accessible, flexible and practical support. By providing information in a digital format, Welcome Work is helping users move forward with greater confidence and independence.
Why Welcome Work Matters
Behind every tool, guide and resource developed through Welcome Work is one simple belief: everyone deserves the chance to work, contribute and thrive.
Employment is about more than income. It can offer stability, dignity, purpose and connection. For people who have been displaced, access to work can be a vital part of rebuilding life in a new country.
Welcome Work has helped bring together employers, communities and displaced professionals to turn this belief into action. By supporting skills development, inclusive workplaces and better access to information, the project is helping to strengthen local economies while opening doors to new beginnings.
As we celebrate two years of Welcome Work, we recognise the commitment of everyone involved in making this project possible. Together, the partnership is helping to build more inclusive communities and stronger pathways to opportunity across Europe.
